solidian GRID reinforcement for large-format precast façade elements in Neumarkt

For an office building in Neumarkt, Germany, sandwich wall elements were produced with a slim concrete facing layer, integrated insulation and a load-bearing concrete layer. The project demonstrates how non-metallic reinforcement can support efficient precast façade construction where durability, element size and material efficiency need to work together.

The facing layer was reinforced with solidian GRID-Q71-C-EP-s-51-F207 and combined with Schöck Isolink connectors. The project involved KLEBL and Schöck as project participants.

Challenge

Sandwich wall elements must combine several functions in one prefabricated system: façade appearance, thermal insulation, structural performance and reliable connection between layers.

For this project, the goal was to realize large-format precast wall elements with a slim reinforced facing layer and an integrated insulation layer.

The key requirements were:

  • slim concrete facing layer with only 45 mm thickness
  • durable reinforcement for the facing layer
  • integrated 100 mm insulation
  • reliable connection between facing layer and load-bearing layer
  • large-format precast elements with heights of 3.58 m
  • element lengths up to approx. 8.00 m
  • efficient prefabrication and installation

Solution

The sandwich wall elements were designed with a 45 mm facing layer made of concrete grade C50/60. This layer was reinforced with solidian GRID-Q71-C-EP-s-51-F207.

Behind the facing layer, a 100 mm insulation layer was integrated. The load-bearing layer had a thickness of 140 mm and was produced with concrete grade C30/37.

For the connection between the layers, Schöck Isolink connectors were used. This combination enabled the production of large-format sandwich wall elements with a slim reinforced facing layer, integrated insulation and a load-bearing concrete layer.

Result

The project shows how solidian GRID reinforcement can be used in the facing layer of precast sandwich wall elements. With solidian GRID-Q71-C-EP-s-51-F207, a slim 45 mm concrete layer could be realized as part of a large-format façade system.

The use of non-metallic reinforcement is especially relevant in façade applications where reduced concrete cover, corrosion resistance and efficient element design are important.
