In a recent project completed with our partner Omnis Kompozit, we applied it as part of a FRCM (Fiber Reinforced Cementitious Matrix) system to strengthen masonry infill walls inside an existing reinforced concrete building.

The application, visible in the installation images, was based on three key components:

  • solidian FLEX GRID Carbon 240 g textile reinforcement
  • Carbon anchors for mechanical interlock
  • Mineral-based structural mortar

After cleaning and preparing the wall, a first thin layer of inorganic mortar was applied to the substrate. While the mortar was still fresh, the carbon grid was installed and lightly pressed into the matrix to ensure full embedment. Anchorage holes were drilled, carbon connectors were fixed, and each connection point was embedded with mortar. Finally, a second mortar layer was applied over the grid to create a continuous FRCM composite layer that enhances both in-plane and out-of-plane behavior of the wall.

The FRCM system provided a durable and efficient structural strengthening enhancing the masonry’s ductile behaviour and improving its residual load-bearing capacity - particularly under seismic loading. The solution increased the structural capacity of the masonry while preserving the architectural characteristics of the building. This project demonstrates the effectiveness of solidian FLEX GRID Carbon 240 g as a modern, thin, and sustainable retrofit solution for masonry and reinforced concrete structures.
